Metal roofing faq
No, this is a common misconception about metal roofing. Metal roofing is typically installed over a solid deck and underlayment and/or existing shingles. Additionally, attic space and insulation serve as added sound barriers. As a result, the noise levels of a metal roof during inclement weather are the same as an asphalt shingle roof.
Yes, a steel roof will not burn and is safe from airborne burning cinders. Steel roofing is the has earned a Class “A” fire rating which is the highest level of protection.
Steel roofing is no more susceptible to lightning than any other roofing material. Since steel roofing is non-combustible it will not start on fire during a lightning storm.
No, a metal roof will not make your home hotter than a traditional shingle roof. Metal roofing has higher heat reflectivity than other roofing products. As it reflects heat instead of absorbing it, metal roofing is very energy efficient. It also provides excellent insulation in the winter months helping to keep energy costs down year round. Metal roofing meets the EPA Energy Star Roof Products Program performance criteria.
We don’t use just any metal for metal roofing materials. We use coated steel roofing panels that are protected by layers of metallic and polymer coatings to prevent corrosion.
Metal might seem like a heavy material but the metal roofing panels we use typically weigh less than other roofing materials.
The short answer is yes, you can. However, as with walking on any roof, you should use caution. You should discuss specific details about walking on your roof with your installation company.
Metal roofs are very durable and highly resistant to hail damage. In fact, many metal roofing products have the highest impact resistance and hail rating granted by the insurance commissions. So you may want to check with your insurance company to see if they provide a reduced rate for metal roofs.

- BullDog installed the roof and cupola on our custom home 6 years ago and when we built a custom “Kentucky” horse barn this past summer we called on BullDog again to install a metal roof and large cupola on our barn. Chris Kiepert came out right away and gave us a quote along with a few suggestions. He gave us a firm start date and his crew worked through a very hot summer week to complete the job. They also added gutters to the barn and installed the massive cupola/weathervane to cap it off. - The local professionals at BULLDOG are just that...PROFESSIONALS ! From the "not pushy" salesmanship to the clean up...all aspects were A+. Prior to old roof tear off, they completely covered all shrubs, flowers, etc. During the roofing preparation & installation, installers worked tirelessly with proper installation techniques. After new roof completion, all workers cleaned up leaving no roofing residue & magnetically scanned the entire property for nails. Other than a BEAUTIFUL NEW ROOF, couldn't tell BULLDOG had ever been here. I/we received no incentive/compensation for this review. HIGHLY RECOMMEND !Sam Buchanan1 year ago
